Building Tomorrow’s Leaders Today National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth members of the Boy Scouts with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home, troops, and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. The course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what he must KNOW, and what he must DO. The NYLT course is a weeklong course and is delivered in a troop & patrol outdoor setting.The NYLT presentations are designed to provide the participants with effective leadership skills that they can develop and use on their own. Some key concepts explored in the course: ® Vision-Goals-Planning ® SMART Goals ® Planning & Problem-Solving Tools ® Teaching EDGE ® Leading EDGE ® Communication ® Making Ethical Decisions ® Stages of Team Development ® And much more... The staff for the NYLT Course is a combination of adult Leaders and youth members from the various Troops within the Council. The staff has participated in training courses to provide the youth participants with the most energetic, complete training being offered to the youth members of the BSA. The youth participants will be assigned to a patrol to help develop a better understanding of the patrol method and for stronger, dynamic interactions with other scouts from around the Council. The NYLT Course is ideal training for Senior Patrol Leaders and Patrol Leaders. It is a valuable experience for other older scouts as well. In order to attend the NYLT Course the youth participant must meet the following requirements: ® Registered scout 13—17 years of age and have completed the 7th grade by course date ® Minimum First Class rank ® Completed Troop Leadership Training ® Have their Scoutmaster’s recommendation The Istrouma Area Council NYLT course will be held at the Avondale Scout Reservation near Clinton, LA. The course dates are July 6-12, 2008. A $50 deposit is required to secure your spot as space is limited. Complete registrations are due by March 31, 2008.
