ATTENTION: As of March 3, 2009, all Istrouma Area Council (IAC) jamboree troops have been filled. However, a waiting list has been established for those IAC scouts who wish to sign up. Experience from prior years’ jamborees shows that there is nearly always a few registered IAC jamboree scouts who are unable to participate which leave vacancies for other scouts. Be the first in line, sign up today!

If you know of a scout who is considering going to NSJ in 2010, or may be interested, please urge his family to take action now. Information concerning the two step jamboree registration and application process can be found below. First, read the information on this page. Instructions, required forms, and contact information are also available on this page by selecting one of the big red buttons on the left side of the page. To be on the waiting list, you must be registered.

NOTE: Staff registration will continue to be open directly on the NSJ web site. See below for more information.

Youth Application and Registration

As a first step, the NSJ requires that each interested youth with parent(s) log on and complete an application and submit a non-refundable $10 application fee online by credit card. That site is accessed through www.scouting.org. Then, to be considered for an IAC jamboree troop youth opening, each scout and parent(s) must read, complete, and sign an IAC 2010 National Scout Jamboree Boy Scout Application and Contract.

IAC STAFF News– Men, Women, Senior Youth Wanted!

The 2010 National Scout Jamboree is looking for men, women, and senior youth to work on staff at jamboree. Jamboree staff positions are open to youth and adult men and women who meet specified National Scout Jamboree qualifications. Adult staff members must have been born before July 26, 1989. Youth staff members must have been born between August 4, 1989 and July 26, 1994, and must be registered members of the Boy Scouts of America. All staff applications must be approved by the IAC.

Jamboree staff members provide the support and program services needed for an outstanding event. Volunteer staffers operate everything from bus service and telephone systems to a hospital and first-aid stations, police and fire departments, post offices, food warehouses, a daily newspaper, retail stores (trading posts), and action centers. Without the help of scouters to go to Jamboree and work on staff, the 2010 National Scout Jamboree would not be possible.

Youth staff members under the age of 18 have the opportunity to serve in numerous job assignments at the jamboree. Youth staff will be needed in many of the jamboree groups and services listed on the staff application, such as jamboree band (Daily Ceremonies), Trading Posts, Brownsea Island, Action Centers, and Service Corps.

Jamboree staff applications are to be completed online and submitted directly to the national office. Applicants must complete an online application and submit a non-refundable $100 deposit online by credit card. The web site will be accessible through www.scouting.org for volunteers. BSA employees may access it through www.myBSA.org. Staff applications will be processed at NSJ and then forwarded to the IAC for review, evaluation, and recommendation to NSJ.

Background

The 2010 National Scout Jamboree will be held at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia from July 26 through August 4, 2010. It is anticipated that over 40,000 scouts from across the United States and from other countries will attend. This will be a very special jamboree, as the 2010 jamboree will celebrate the 100th year anniversary of scouting in the United States.

Continuing its strong tradition of attendance of BSA National Scout Jamborees, the Istrouma Area Council (IAC) will send a contingency of scouts, adult leaders, and staff to the 2010 National Scout Jamboree. To manage this process, the council established the IAC 2010 National Scout Jamboree Steering Committee. The committee is responsible for organizing, planning, and managing the IAC’s 2010 National Scout Jamboree contingency and program.

The steering committee was formed in August of 2007. Recruiting and filling the IAC Jamboree Troop adult leader positions for the five IAC Troops were the first priority. The committee selected 15 scouters to fill Scoutmaster, 1st Assistant Scoutmaster, and 2nd Assistant Scoutmaster positions for each troop. A 3rd Assistant Scoutmaster will be selected by the IAC adult troop leadership for each of the respective jamboree troops. Those selections will be made from young adult scouter applicants whose jamboree age will be from 18 to 20 years old. The committee and selected jamboree adult troop leaders will complete the IAC contingent program plan including pre-jamboree tour arrangements.

Eligible IAC scouts and Webelos are being recruited to fill the five IAC jamboree troops. Applications are being accepted now on a first come basis. As this will be a very special jamboree celebrating the 100th anniversary of scouting in the United States, interest and demand for scout openings are high. IAC troop openings are limited and a waiting list will be established.

Each troop will consist of 36 Scouts organized into troop leadership and four patrols of eight scouts. Every troop will select four scouts to fill the Sr. Patrol Leader, Assistant Sr. Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, and Troop Scribe positions. Each patrol will have at a minimum a Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader. The patrol method will be used at jamboree and while on tour.

In addition to attending the jamboree, IAC scouts and their troop leaders will take a pre-jamboree tour to an east coast venue. This tour will begin several days before the jamboree and will end at Fort A.P. Hill.

For more information about the IAC’s 2010 jamboree contingent, contact any IAC jamboree steering committee member.

This website will be updated as other information becomes available.
